Only 13 per cent of the ocean still exists as undisturbed wilderness according to new research by the University of Queensland.

Researchers scanned the seas for interference by humans across a range of areas including fishing, shipping, land-based run-off and mining.

The majority of these pristine sites are located far from human populations.
