Despite it being 2015, there are still many groups of women in Australia facing daily challenges. Domestic Violence is finally seeing the community take notice of what many women have suffered in silence with in 2014, however there is still a lack of support for victims, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait and disabled women. In addition, January 1st saw changes to the budget kicking in that affects single mothers and low income earners. We take a look at how this federal budget will will impact on women in our community. We also examine laws requiring men and women who have undergone sex reassignment surgery to divorce their husbands and wives before having their birth certificates updated.
