Despite Tony Abbott promising that Work Choices was “dead, buried, cremated”, the first year of the Coalition’s rule saw them put forward changes to the Fair Work Act that unions said were trying to bring back individual contracts by another name. Top that with a Royal Commission into “union corruption” which failed to find any and 15,000 public sector workers taking industrial action and it seemed to those focused on industrial relations that we were indeed back to the days of John Howard.
