In today’s news on the Wheat Board scandal, Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile says he has no recollection of personally reading a cable warning of kickbacks in the Iraq wheat trade. But he says he would have expected staff to have drawn it to his attention. Diplomatic cables released this week by the Cole inquiry into the affair show Austrade officials were urged to bring the issue up with Mr Vaile in 2000.
