The United Nations Security Council has demanded a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The proposal by the council’s elected members, received overwhelming support with 14 votes in favour, while the United States abstained from voting.

This resolution comes after almost 6 months of war in Gaza, killing over 32,000 Palestinians and causing intense famine in the region.

We speak with Dr Marika Sosnowski a specialist in ceasefires from Melbourne University about why it has taken this long for the UN security council to demand a ceasefire.
