The Labor party released its policy on taxing multi-national companies today in an attempt to stave off accusations they won’t be able to deliver a budget surplus. The plan aims to re-coup $1.9 billion in tax by clamping down on tax avoidance strategies and beefing up the Australian Tax Office’s ability to investigate companies who may be paying less than they should. But business is bound to push back, with concerns jobs could go offshore, and there are concerns the ALP’s plan won’t stop companies finding new and creative ways to keep their bottom line in the black.
