The Sri Lankan conflict: the truth behind the official version
Two years ago the world was receiving reports of a bloodbath in Sri Lanka. More than 40,000 Tamil civilians died as part of a government crackdown on rebel group the Tamil Tigers. At the time it was framed as legitimate action – all part of the war on Terror – but since then more and more questions have been asked about what actually happened, culminating last month in a hardhitting UN report recommending an international investigation to see of the Sri Lankan Government could be accused of war crimes. Gordon Weiss lived through those times as a journlaist and later UN spokesperson. He was so affected by the horrific events of 2009 that he returned to Australia and wrote “The Cage” .
