The science community nearly exploded with delight yesterday when news of the first ever detection of gravitational waves caused by the collision of two super massive black holes. The reading comes from he Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) in the USA. But the feat was global in scale and included a consortium of committed Australian scientists who helped design aspects of LIGO and analyse the data.
