After a distressingly violent couple of weeks for Kurds in northeast Syria following the pullout of the US, the situation has stabilised. Turkey has agreed to a permanent ceasefire, the US has agreed to lift sanctions and Russia has entered the picture, making an agreement with Turkey to deploy troops along the Syrian border. The Kurdish Lobby Australia says while the Russians are better news for Kurds than Turkey, they still face ongoing displacement, and that the whole deal is part of darker machinations behind the scenes of international diplomacy.
