In a major coup for the Greens, this weekends ACT elections saw the party gain the balance of power in the states Legislative Assembly. The Green’s won three of the states 17 seats, securing more than 15% of the vote. This comes after large swings to the Greens in both the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Green’s leader, Senator Bob Brown has hailed the win as proof that Australian’s now consider his party as a viable third force in politics. But are the Greens the new shining star of politics, or does the result represent a protest vote away from the major parties?
