Brisbane-based disability advocate, Sara Shams has been celebrated for her efforts promoting inclusivity within the disability sector, receiving the Minister’s Multicultural Award this week.

At the age of six, Sara’s life changed when she became a bilateral above-knee amputee. Born in Bangladesh, she later realised no media and workplace representation existed for multicultural Australian women living with disability, motivating her to become an advocate of this intersection.

Meeting at the Multicultural Queensland Awards, The Wire’s Netta Finney asked Ms Shams to explain more about her advocacy.
