The Olympic Dam mine expansion – The debate goes to Federal Court

The Olympic Dam is situated 550 kilometres North West from Adelaide and is now set to be the world’s largest open-cut mine with BHP Biliton’s proposed $20 billion expansion. The mines are particularly rich in uranium, with the products of the are shipping to nuclear plants all around the world.

This has been a dividing issue with several groups over the years opposing the mine itself, and now opposing the expansion.Aboriginal Elder Kevin Buzzacott, is now challenging BHP in a Federal Court case next Thursday.
