Almost half of the funding which the major political parties receive comes from private and corporate sources. Many have taken issue with this practice, suggesting that this private money may bring with it undue influence over government policy and process. Nonetheless the government has recently introduced reforms aimed at removing disclosure requirements for donations under $10 000. The Wire delved into the murky area of political donation and spoke to spoke to Gary Nairn, Federal Special Minister for State, Joo Cheong Tham, Melbourne University Law lecturer and Stuart Wilson, CEO of the Australian Shareholders Association.
