The Malaysian Solution forces dangerous boat journey to New Zealand

The Government’s Malaysian solution was proposed as a way to stop asylum seekers taking dangerous journeys by boat to seek asylum. But yesterday a boat carrying 85 Sri Lankan asylum seekers was stopped by Indonesian authorities on its way to New Zealand. This could be a sign that the policy is forcing asylum seekers to embark on longer and more dangerous journeys instead of stopping the boats.
