The law vs human rights: forced sterilisation of women with disabilities still legal in Australia

Forced sterilization is still not prohibited in Australia, and according to evidence given by several organizations in a 2023 Senate Inquiry, Australian women with disabilities are facing “reproductive violence”, including forced or coerced, sterilisation abortions and contraception.

On her podcast access granted, Powerd Media reporter Emma Myers spoke with CEO of Women with Disabilities Australia, Sophie Cusworth about the law versus human rights debate on forced sterilisation, abortion and her personal experience with bodily autonomy as a woman with a disability.
