There has been a glut of music awards in recent years like the ARIA, APRA and Jack Awards that have been added to the Australian Music Industry calendar. Late last year a new award was added to the list, the Australian Music Prize of the AMP 2005. The prize was set up to reqard musical excellence and identify the most outstanding album in 2005 by an Australian artist. The award was judged by industry professionals and peers with a cash prize of $25 000. Cheryl Northy attended the Inaugural Australian Music Prize award night to see if its ideals matched its outcome.
