While the Labor party experienced serious declines this election, The Greens are one party that has made incredible strides forward. The Greens are expected to win an historic three seats in the Senate, which will bring their total number to five, with the possibility of another Senate place on the cards. However, the Greens, along with the rest of the Senate, will remain frustrated in a chamber dominated by the governing party. The Greens’ advances have come despite a nation-wide smear campaign which saw everything from the fake Green “how-to-vote” cards directing preferences incorrectly to the Liberals, to false claims about their drugs policies. Erica Vowles spoke to Greens Senator Bob Brown, who reflected on the election and the likely make-up of the Senate.
