As we wave goodbye to the Democrats we are set to see a new era in Australian politics as the Greens become the new third force in our parliament with 5 Senators. In order to pass or block new legislation, the major parties will need the support of not only all the Greens, but two independent Senators as well – SA’s No Pokies MP Nick Xenephon and Family First Senator Steve Fielding. Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young talks to Catherine Zengerer about how she sees negotiations panning out with the Independents and her response to the Liberals proposals to delay the implementation fo the Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme.
