Oombulgurri, a remote town in the eastern corner of Western Australia, has had a colourful history: the infamous Forrest River massacre, a coronial inquiry in 2007, and the police task force “Operation Sheepshank”. These controversial happenings have put the town on the map, but it is now about to be wiped right back off again by the Government of Western Australia. The disappearance of an entire town – it’s like something from a Hollywood film. But it has become a certain reality for the remaining residents of Oombulgurri.
