Earlier this week The Wire reported that the ABC faced job cuts if recommendations from an internal review were implemented. The ABC’s managing director has now confirmed a significant number of production staff will be made redundant this year. Changes are flagged mainly to replace studio staff such as camera and boom microphone operators with automated equipment, affecting television more than other areas. Friends of the ABC say the network’s focus and strength is online rather than TV.
