With COVID-19 leaving many unemployed and dependant on welfare, the government increased JobSeeker payments from $40 per day to $80 per day.
Scott Morrison has maintained that this will only be temporary, with payments returning to their pre-COVID-19 rate after restrictions have lifted.
However, a senate inquiry originally set up to examine Newstart has urged the government to permanently increase unemployment benefits.
