The National Sustainable Food Summit, to be held in Melbourne this week, will look at the future of Australia’s food production in the midst of a changing climate. It will look at alternative food production measures such as subsidising farmers to use environmentally sound practices and turning hobby farms into working properties. And while farmers and scientists say Australian farms are capable of feeding the nation until the population more than doubles, the effects of food shortages are already been felt with rising grocery costs. The summit will aim to focus on a diverse range of policy areas including health, planning, water and climate.
