Imagine a future where prawns have no shells, chickens can’t lay eggs and sugar is scarce. Wheat, seafood and dairy products, poultry, meat, grains, and fruit and vegetables – all of these household food items will be impacted by climate change in a way that could change our diets significantly, according to a new report. In Appetite for Change, leading climate scientists David Karoly and Richard Eckard from the University of Melbourne, show that shifting rainfall patterns, extreme weather, warming oceans, and climate-related diseases will have a huge impact on the production, quality and cost of Australia’s food in the future.
