The fight for secure jobs came to Adelaide today with a forum featuring workers from car manufacturer Holden, hospitality, cleaners and teachers. They all share what the union movement says is affecting 40 percent of Australians – no job security. Former Deputy Prime Minister Brian Howe was at the forum; he says insecure work is fragmenting people’s lives and it’s time workers were treated with more dignity. Australia now has the highest level of casualisation in the OECD. ACTU President Ged Kearney says this is unnecessary and unacceptable, and that insecure work should be an election issue.
