The Government’s tax discussion paper, released today, highlights the GST threshold for online shopping as an issue. At the moment GST is not charged on international purchases under a thousand dollars. This is why shopping online with international companies like Amazon is often cheaper than shopping locally, but with the Government emphasising taxation reforms, the GST situation is likely to change.
