Two years ago two children escaped from Woomera Detention Centre and turned up at the British Consulate in Melbourne seeking asylum. Although they were returned to detention and have since been at the centre of cases in the Australian courts, lawyers in England have been working to prove that the British Consulate should have granted them asylum. They have now been granted the right to take their case to the British courts. Australian lawyer for the boys’ father, Paul Boylan, says if the action succeeds the whole family could end up being accepted by Britain.
