There was a long struggle in the sixties and seventies to decriminalise abortion with South Australia the first state to pass laws making it legally possible. Anne Levy was part of that struggle and a member of the Legislative Council when the law was changed in 1970. She believes the current call to ban late term abortions is just a thin end of the wedge approach by the same anti abortion lobby that operated then. She says she hopes Health Minister Tony Abbott will be told to “butt out” by women politicians from all parties.
