Terrorism Laws Get a Workout
The Federal government today claimed that the conviction of Faheem Khalid Lodhi marked a major victory in the war against terrorism. Mr Loudi was the first person to be found guilty of planning a terrorist act on Australian soil under the recently introduced Anti-Terrorism Legislation. The Federal Justice Minister, Chris Ellison, was quick to point out that Mr Lodhi could not have been successfully prosecuted were it not for the introduction of these laws. However, this conviction comes only two weeks after the Federal Government’s Security Legislation Review Committee found that Anti-Terrorism Legislation raised serious human rights concerns and needed to be reviewed.
