This year marks the 10th anniversary of independence in East Timor. One group of survivors that the world knows little about is the women who used to make up East Timor’s ‘clandestine movement’ of resistance. A book publishing the experiences of these women, translated into English, was launched yesterday at the Sydney Writer’s Festival to mark East Timor’s independence day. Those who compiled the work say that it is also an appeal to Western countries to support moves to set up an international tribunal in East Timor.
