Telstra and the Government go another round in the ring

Our Prime Minister, John Howard has reaffirmed his intention push for the appointment of the Government’s Telstra board nominee Geoff Cousins. Mr Howard told reports today said the Government would exercise its majority vote in support of Mr Cousins at Telstra’s annual general meeting in November. This is despite the appointment being bitterly opposed by Telstra chief executive Sol Trujillo – in fact the company has taken the unprecedent step of recommending that its shareholders vote against the appointment. This moves represents just the latest in a string of ugly disputes between Telstra and its majority shareholder, the Government.
