Telling stories from the Holocaust
With genocide sadly remaining a part of the human experience, survivor testimonies of the Holocaust serve as chilling reminders of the atrocities that can occur when the international community fails to act. Dr Bernard Otterman is one such survivor. He’s also the author of ‘The Golem of Auschwitz’ and today he visited the University of Sydney to discuss his background and new book. Dr Otterman spent from ages two to eight growing up in Jewish ghettos and concentration camps constructed by the Nazis in Poland. While most of his extended family was killed, miraculously he and his parents survived. Today Dr Otterman uses his experiences to write fictional stories based on the events of the Holocaust. Kirsten Veness spoke with Dr Otterman to ask him about the reality of growing up in a Jewish concentration camp.
