A survey by the Australian Education Union has found teachers are working across the nation in subjects they’re not trained in. 60 per cent of secondary schools and 30 per cent of primary schools said they had staff teaching outside their area of expertise. 59 per cent of principals reported problems with the supply of teachers in the past year, and 57 per cent said the problem was getting worse. The subjects most affected were mathematics and technology, while rural and regional towns had the highest shortage of teachers.
