Today marks an iconic development in the fight for Aboriginal Land Rights, with 338 hectares situated in Tasmania’s North West coast being returned to its traditional owners.
Once belonging to former farmer, the late Geoff King, the Tarkine property is home to 10 confirmed cultural Indigenous sites and many endangered species including the Tasmanian Devil.
The Aboriginal Land Council, alongside the help from the Bob Brown Foundation, Indigenous Land Corporation, Graeme Wood Foundation and the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, has bought the land for more than $1 million dollars.
