Tasmanian land handback
The Tasmanian Government’s plan to return crown land to traditional owners is being described as a blessing in disguise. State Secretary of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre Trudy Maluga and representatives of the palawa people have met with Premier Lennon today to discuss the States’ land hand-back plans – one of the express wishes of former Premier Jim Bacon. Christine Powell spoke to Ms Maluga about the preparations they were made ahead of today’s meeting. Premier Paul Lennon says the move is aimed at creating meaningful reconciliation with Tasmania’s Indigenous people. And in welcoming the government’s action, Ms Maluga says people need to work together in the reconciliation process.
