A new law proposing teachers in remote communities must speak in indigenous language is attracting a lot of attention. The Wire found out more about this proposal and why one educator thinks it’s a great idea.

Bilingual education in schools has proved beneficial for students, teachers, and the community all around the world. However, in Australia,  English is the only language of instruction in schools, adversely affecting some remote communities where Indigenous languages are spoken.The New South Wales government wants to create policies like those in the Northern Territory,  policies that benefit  remote communities, like bilingual education.
