Taliban forces in Afghanistan have stoned a man and woman aged in their 20s to death over allegations of adultery. It’s the country’s first stoning since the international invasion in 2001. It comes after the United Nations reported that civilian deaths have risen by a third in 2010, with three quarters of the 1271 casualties attributed to insurgents’ use of roadside bombs and assassinations. So what can the Afghan Government do to prevent stonings when they can’t secure their country with the aid of foreign forces?
