Downtown Sydney has had a taste of live-in political protest in recent weeks, with the establishment of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Camperdown’s Victoria Park. It was set up to coincide with the start of the Redfern Inquiry on May the 20th – and has grown to include a large group of tents and supporters. The Embassy has been pilloried in the Daily Telegraph – as has the independent Lord Mayor, Clover More, for expressing her sympathy and support for the plight of Aboriginal Australians. Resisting calls to have the group “moved on”, Lord Mayor More has met with spokesperson Isabelle Coe and has also offered to broker meetings with the state and federal members, for discussions on a treaty. Embassy spokesperson Aunty Isabelle Coe speaks about the protest, and talks with the Lord Mayor.
