Sydney musician calls to stop discrimination on basis of hair

A petition with 3,500 signatures started by 21 year old Sydney-based rapper and musician James Emmanuel, known by their stage name Jamarzonmarz is calling on independent schools in NSW to stop restricting Afro-textured and protective hairstyles in schools as they are vital to African Australian cultural roots and identities.

The petition comes as the Black Lives Matter movement has inspired other petitions in Australia such as that of Sydney-based hairstylist  Chrissy Zemura calling on TAFE Australia to increase skills based learning of Afro hairstyles to better cater to the needs of a diverse Australia.
