This year, The Sydney Festival is seeking to reinvigorate a struggling Sydney art scene. With international talent grabs out of the line-up, this year’s theme, ‘Australian Made’ aims to seize the challenge by investing in Australian creatives.

Featuring 130 events over 3 weeks sprawling from Parramatta to Chippendale, the 2021 Sydney Festival is looking to inject $6 million into the Sydney arts industry. Despite reduced audience capacities and a mixture of in-person and online events, the 2021 Festival is aiming to show Sydney-siders their local artists are worth the investment.

Sophie Ellis sat down with Sydney Festival Director and famed playwright Wesley Enoch to chat Sydney’s art recovery, meaningful indigenous inclusion and valuing local talent.
