With the US Presidential Election less than two months away, the two candidates are spending the majority of their time and resources in just eight states. These so-called “swing states” are the equivalent of marginal seats in Australia, and their influence can extend beyond the election.

Experts on US Politics say swing states can demand disproportionate attention, influence policy, and nationalize what would otherwise be state objectives.
