The government has ordered the company who owns the abandoned Ben Lomond uranium mining site in North Queensland, to take all necessary action in safeguarding the site. 30 years on since the site ceased operations, the site is still exceeding radioactive. Residents say the Ground water streams which flow from the greater area of the mine, straight to local drinking reservoirs, come dangerously close for peace of mind and the current levels of water contamination, lend credence to these fears.
