One of the key health issues causing early deaths in Indigenous communities is heart disease, and with only limited services available to people living in remote communities, patients often have to travel interstate and away from their families to get treatment – often when it is too late. Monica Lawrence worked in Aboriginal Health, at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide. She was so concerned by what she saw, she undertook a Masters degree to learn how we could improve services for heart patients in remote communities.
