Supermarket lobby responsible for dumping of Grocery Choice

The government’s decision to dump the proposed Grocery Choice website has been put down to the political influence of the big supermarket chains. The government had committed $13 million to the online service and engaged consumer advocates Choice to help build a website that would allow consumers to compare grocery prices online. Choice says the site was almost ready to go before the government pulled the plug. The supermarkets were today talking with the government about developing their own version of the site. But Choice says the new plan is like putting Dracula in charge of the blood bank.
