New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that over the last decade, rates of suicide in Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities have increased by 21%.

Youths are especially at risk, with intentional self-harm being the leading cause of death for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons between 15 and 34 years of age from 2012 to 2016.

If you or anyone you know is thinking about suicide or experiencing a personal crisis, help is available. Call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467.
