Suburban Sistaz
With an average weekly income of $480, a 7.4% unemployment rate and with only 33% of residents holding post school qualifications, people growing up in Sydney’s West are at an obvious disadvantage. The Wire discovered, tapping into the creative talents of young women at-risk of getting caught up in the criminal justice system can provide more than simply a few tracks of music. Suburban Sistaz, led by MC Trey is a free Hip Hop and urban music program for at risk young women in Sydney’s West. It is run by the international Cultural Exchange and apart from creating quality Hip Hop music, the program is inspiring participants to achieve beyond their demographically defined expectations.
