Indigenous Education shone the spotlight on Queensland this week. In the south the Indigenous Education Leadership Institute was launched in Cherbourg. The centre, is the culmination of the Cherbourg State School Strong and Smart program implemented by Dr Chris Sarra. The Wire joined the Doctor, State Minister for Education and the Arts Rod Welford and the Murray Family (Fabian, Sam and Marilyn) in the community celebrations. Whilst in the north the “no school no welfare” proposal is gaining momentum for a trial. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service of Townsville has concerns about the consultation process and the legal ramifications.Chairperson Ms Angie Ahkee comments.
