Arabana cultural guide Reg Dodd and filmmaker Malcolm McKinnon have been friends for many years and Malcolm has come to know the country around Finniss Springs through Reg’s eyes. Reg’s own story of his Scottish grandfather and Arabana grandmother is a remarkable one. The area in the hot desert north of South Australia has had to deal with pastoralists, railways, mining, and most recently an influx of 4-wheel drivers determined to explore the wild heart of Australia. These stories are told in a series of conversations between the two men in their book “Talking Sideways”.
