Stolen Lives – trafficking in China
A new report about human trafficking along the China-Burma border has uncovered high levels of human rights abuses. The “Stolen Lives” report reveals that 110 people have been trafficked from Burma into China over the past six years – and the majority are females between the ages of three months and 33 years old. In a quarter of the cases, women were forced to marry Chinese men and 10 per cent were forced into the sex trade. One disturbing story reveals that an under-age girl was transferred to four husbands before escaping. The report was produced by the Palaung Women’s Organisation. They partner with the International Women’s Development Agency in Australia and their programs rely on public support for funding.
