Stolen Generations Special Part 2: The ongoing legacy of loss
Last night on The Wire we took a look at the issue of the Stolen Generations, a practice that in years past saw as many as one in three Indigenous children were forcibly removed from their families. The 26th of this month, marks the 10th anniversary of the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report, which chronicled the legacy of the Stolen Generations and suggested remedies. Last night we heard the story of Brenda McDonald, a 63-year-old Indigenous women who was taken from her family in Coonabarabran in NSW when she was just eight years old. Brenda and another activist Brian Butler, who is now the chair of the Stolen Generations alliance outline their frustration at the inaction around this issue, which they feel continues to have a negative impact on their people.
