Mary Terszak is a Nyoongah woman from WA who was taken from her mother when she was two because she was so light-skinned. Growing up believing she was an orphan, she found her mother when she was fifty, only to be rejected by her birth family. She has written “Orphaned by the Colour of My Skin” to try to explain the tragedy of being caught between two worlds.
